Relay

A good place to start.

From your first connection to your first handoff. Start with one assistant and a small project you can easily recognize.

Your first success: a handoff you can verify

  1. Connect one assistant.
  2. Save a named topic.
  3. Check its saved revision.
  4. Recall it in another assistant.

After your assistant makes its first save, your topics will appear in your workspace.Open workspace

Connect your first assistant

Start guided setup

Open your assistant’s apps or connectors settings and add a custom remote MCP connector using this address:

https://relayz.ai/mcp

Follow the sign-in screen and review the permissions before choosing Allow. Use the same Relay account and sign-in method in every assistant.

ChatGPT

Open the apps or plugins settings and add a custom MCP server with the server address above, if your plan and workspace allow it. Connection options vary by account and device.

After connecting, enable Relay in the chat you want to use. If search or related-topic tools are missing, refresh or reconnect the integration.

Claude

In Claude’s connector settings, add a custom connector with the server address above, then complete Relay sign-in and consent. Enable the connector for the conversation. If your mobile app does not offer setup, connect through the web app using the same account.

Claude Code & Codex

Add Relay as an authenticated HTTP MCP server in your coding assistant’s MCP settings, using the address above. Complete its OAuth sign-in flow. The exact configuration depends on the client version.

Use the Relay continuity skill when available so project changes and handoffs are saved consistently.

Save your first project

Try a small example first. Paste this into the connected assistant:

Using Relay, save a topic named first-project. We are making a personal website. We chose a dark theme. The next task is writing the homepage introduction. Tell me the saved revision.

Open Notebook and check the topic, decision, and next task. A successful save includes a revision number. A connected assistant alone does not mean anything has been saved.

Continue in another assistant

Connect a second assistant using the same Relay sign-in. In the first assistant, ask:

Save a Relay handoff for first-project with our progress, decisions, and the exact next task.

Then, in the second assistant:

Continue first-project from Relay. Tell me the saved decision and next task before continuing.

You should see the dark-theme decision and homepage-introduction task. If not, check the account, topic name, and whether the first assistant actually saved.

Keep your context in your hands

Inspect saved topics and their revision history. Use Files to attach a document to an existing topic, then ask the other assistant to fetch it. Uploading a file does not automatically put it into every chat.

Your account page offers a JSON export and permanent account deletion. The export contains file metadata; download file contents separately. Use Disconnect all assistants on the account page to end their access, or disconnect one assistant in its own app settings. Signing out of this website only ends the browser session.

To keep something out of Relay, say so:

Do not save this conversation to Relay. Keep this brainstorming in this chat only.

Troubleshooting

Nothing appeared in the other app

Ask the first assistant to recall the exact topic and show its revision. In the second app, check that Relay is enabled and that you used the same sign-in method and account. Then recall the topic by name.

My connection expired

Reconnect Relay from your assistant’s connector settings and complete sign-in again. An expired sign-in link must be restarted from that app.

I cannot find a file

Files belong to topics. Select the right topic on the Files page or ask the assistant to list its files. Expired download links can be refreshed by reloading the page.

Can Relay read all my old chats?

No. Relay receives summaries and files supplied through its tools. It cannot read a provider’s complete chat history, and a save can be missed.

Can I share a topic with someone?

Yes, one topic at a time. Open the topic from Notebook and add their email address under Sharing, as Can edit or View only. Relay emails them an invitation link, and they see the invitation in Notebook after signing in to Relay with that address. The email names you, not the topic. Daily email limits or a delivery problem can stop the email; the invitation still waits in Notebook. It shows the topic’s name, your email address and their access; they can read the topic only after they accept. Then they and their connected assistants can read its kept history and files, and save to it if they can edit. A connected assistant can also ask to share a topic you own with an email address. Nothing is shared or emailed until you confirm the request on that topic’s page; a request you don’t confirm within 7 days ends, and your assistants can make at most 10 requests in 24 hours. Your profile and memory topics can’t be shared, and there are no team workspaces or whole-account sharing. Relay sends at most 10 invitation emails for you in 24 hours; once you have used them, you can’t share with anyone new until that limit resets.
